Senior Payroll Generalist

Bergen Community College, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has an opening for a Senior Payroll Generalist to administer payroll activities of the centralized payroll department.  This position will carry out the responsibility for payroll preparation/processing, pension filings, banking activities, tax reporting and payroll system maintenance.  In addition, this position will ensure adherence to all government tax codes and regulations, employment contracts and generally accepted accounting principles, create and run reports from ADP, input data to update payroll records, tax withholdings and vouchers, prepare reports, resolve issues and discrepancies and handle employee questions, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner in addition to performing additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Manager of Payroll or other designated management.


Required:  Associate degree in Business or Accounting required. Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a Payroll function. Must possess knowledge of payroll practices and procedures with solid understanding of general accounting concepts and journal entries; ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; must be a self-starter, able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision; must exhibit strong skills in customer and student focus, building relationships, organizing and planning; must possess a strong level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with ability to work with diverse population; must have well rounded understanding of human resources interfaces and college faculty. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; experience with Ellucian Colleague and ADP preferred.
