Assistant Director of Human Resources – Leadership Opportunity

Bergen Community College, the No. 1 institution in New Jersey for associate degree graduates four years in a row, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has a leadership opportunity for an Assistant Director of Human Resources. At the direction of the Director of Human Resources and Employee Relations, the Assistant Director will lead the day-to-day operations of the HR department to execute and administer human capital management including talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations, labor relations, administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements, job descriptions, budget management, organizational development, human resources information systems, data management and reporting. As the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the College’s faculty and staff, conducts and oversees the complaint resolution process and investigations ensuring that policies and procedures are followed. The Assistant Director directly supervises (1) Senior HR Generalist, (2) HR Generalists and the Benefits Administrator.


Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree with HR concentration or related field preferred; SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred; Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR, Organizational Development or related areas; higher education administration experience a strong plus and significant experience with collective bargaining and contract administration required. Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission; possesses knowledge of labor relations laws and practices; has the demonstrated ability to develop procedures/processes, manage HR data and produce meaningful reports/metrics to inform management decision-making; demonstrates skill to work with a variety of computer software, database management, employee management software applications and technologically proficient in common office desktop software, and collaborative cloud platforms; exhibits strong skills in leadership, managing people, communication, customer and student focus, building relationships, organizing and planning.
