Research Assistant (Grant Funded Position)

Bergen Community College, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus is seeking a Research Assistant.  This grant-funded position supports the Office of Institutional Research and provides a resource for the development and implementation of a systematic research program that provides critical information to campus decision makers and outside agencies. Additional duties will include assisting faculty and staff in developing and implementing the technical and administrative aspects of research, planning, outcomes assessments, evaluation studies and schedules for the collection of data; participating in the design of research instruments, surveys and questionnaires; mining data, extracting and organizing statistical and narrative data from appropriate sources including Ellucian’s Colleague; summarizing, analyzing and presenting data for incorporation into text, tabular or graphical form; assisting in the preparation and presentation of formal research reports for internal dissemination and in response to external requests; implementing mailing schedules and procedures for surveys and questionnaires; performing additional duties as assigned.


Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.  Minimum of one year of experience in research design, data analysis, grants development, grants evaluation or report preparation required. Must have working knowledge of statistics and research methodology; must possess excellent analytical skills and attention to detail; must possess demonstrated skills in research design and data analysis; proficiency in computer applications, including databases, spreadsheets, presentation and statistical software (e.g., SPSS) and the ability to write queries similar to SQL queries; ability to extract and organize data, statistical and narrative, from appropriate sources; ability to analyzes data using PC-based software to provide appropriate statistical information for research projects; experience with Ellucian’s Colleague a plus. Candidate must possess a strong level of organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; must be driven to provide excellent customer service with ability to handle inquiries of diverse and multicultural students, staff, faculty and visitors with sensitivity and diplomacy; must be a detail oriented self-starter, ability to work independently with little to no supervision and as a team in a collaborative manner; ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously; must demonstrate understanding of the community college mission and practice an open door policy; must be able to work with confidential material.
